Wear Your College Shirt Next Friday

Next week is our first College Week of the school year. Friday, September 19, has been designated as College Shirt Day. I hope you will wear a shirt and support our campuses as we continue to instill within our students the opportunities to continue their education beyond high school.

This year’s theme is College = BIG Lives. Every elementary, middle school and high school student will receive a bright pink bracelet bearing this message. Look for college pendants and other decorations on our campuses, too.

Check out our Facebook page to learn other ways our campuses are celebrating College Week.

First Two Weeks of School Successful in BIG Way

What an excellent beginning to our school year! It always amazes me that on a particular day, students return and through the coordinated efforts of staff, parents and students, a village begins.

Our district welcomed 611 more students than at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year — 39,220 in total. In addition, we added 25 more professional staff over last year.

Our teachers and principals were ready to begin instruction the first day. Transportation picked up and delivered students on time. Food Service provided breakfast and lunch to our tens of thousands of students.

One of our BIG* goals of our 5,000 employees is to continue offering first-class customer service all year long. This includes communicating with you.

Please know our district works hard to keep you informed. Besides our fall meet the teacher and campus open houses, we offer several ways to help you stay connected with your student’s school experience. Follow us at mesquiteisd.org, our mobile app, the district’s Facebook page or Twitter account. You can also follow me on Twitter or here at my blog.

Best wishes for a terrific school year!
